Delicious spicy chicken with rich tomato sauce and South Indian spices.
 

Ingredients

  • 1 chicken, cut in medium pieces
  • 3 medium onion, diced
  • 4 tbsp onion paste
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 1/2 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp cardamom powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Indian garam masala
  • 1/2 cup hung curd
  • 1 pinch asafoetida
  • 1 tsp mustard seed
  • Curry leaves
  • 5 whole red chilies
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 tbsp salt
  • 4 tbsp white sugar
 
Method

Marinate chicken pieces with curd, onion paste, ginger paste, garlic paste, 1/2 tsp black pepper powder, 1/2 tsp chili powder and cardamom powder for 30 minutes. Heat oil in a pan, add curry leaves, red chilies and musturd seed. Then add a pinch asafoetida. After popping stops, add diced onions. When onion starts browning, add chicken mixture and mix well. Add salt for taste and cover for 10 minutes. Add remaining black pepper, chili powder and turmeric powder. Cook another 10 minutes. Sprinkle garam masala and fried coconut strips over top and serve hot with rice.
