Rolled oats (oatmeal), butter, sugar, and salt are cooked just until lightly caramelized. Water is added and the mixture is cooked. Sprinkle with nuts and fruit; serve with cream or use nonfat milk for a low-fat breaskfast.
 

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp. rolled oats (oatmeal; not instant)
  • 1 tsp. butter
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 cup of water
  • Light cream, half and half or milk
  • 1/2 cup nuts (your choice)
  • Fruit of your choice

Method

In a small saucepan, cook and stir the raw oatmeal, butter, sugar and salt over medium heat until ightly caramelize. Carefully add water. Cook and stir to make porridge. Serve in cereal dish. Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Add fruit. Pour on some cream, half and half or milk. Enjoy!

 

Notes: You can add more water, if you like a thinner consistancy. Do not omit the pinch of salt.
