Venison Stew

Venison (deer meat) is cubed and oven-baked along with onion, carrots, potatoes and frozen peas with beef stew seasoning mix.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 lbs deer meat cut in cubes for stew
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 package Beef Stew seasoning mix
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 medium chopped onion
  • 1 cup celery chopped
  • 1 cup carrots sliced
  • 3 cups cubed potatoes
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 3 cups water

Method

Add vegetable oil to large skillet sprayed with "Pam." Roll venison cubes in flour and brown in oil. Season with salt and pepper. Place browned meat in large baking dish and stir in garlic, beef stew mix and water. Cover with tin foil and bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Then to meat mixture add onions, celery, carrots and potatoes. Cover and bake 1 hour longer (until carrots/potatoes are tender). Add peas the last 15 min. Stir mixture occasionally.

Notes: Excellent with cornbread or biscuits. It's another great way to use all of that deer meat.

Number of servings: 4
